Interior vs. Exterior Window Cleaning: What Dallas Homeowners Should Know
"Do you clean the inside too?" is one of the most common questions we get, and the honest answer is: it depends on what you actually need. Here's how to think about interior versus exterior window cleaning and how often each one matters.
Exterior cleaning deals with the elements: dust, pollen, hard water spots from sprinklers, rain residue, and in some cases construction debris or paint overspray. Because exterior glass faces the weather year-round, it typically needs attention more often, especially in North Texas where pollen season and hard water both take a toll fast.
Interior cleaning is a different job entirely. There's no weather exposure, but there's often more buildup from cooking, candles, cleaning product residue, and everyday household dust, plus the added complexity of working around furniture, blinds, and curtains. Interior glass usually looks fine at a glance longer than exterior glass does, which is why it tends to get cleaned less often, even though buildup is happening the whole time.
For most homes, a reasonable approach is exterior cleaning two to four times a year depending on the season and how exposed the home is, with interior cleaning once or twice a year, or paired with exterior service if you want both done in the same visit. Homes with multi-story or hard-to-reach windows benefit from professional service for exterior work especially, since ladder work on tall glass isn't something we'd recommend doing yourself.
If you're comfortable doing interior windows yourself, a microfiber cloth and a proper squeegee technique will get you most of the way there. Exterior windows, especially anything above the first story, are where a professional crew with the right equipment makes the real difference, both in results and in safety.
